"Late Bloomer:" radical film from young Japanese director, Go Shibata. A severely

disabled (or differently abled, whichever you prefer) man depends on help from his caretakers but they remain insensitive to him and his needs.
What begins as a hilarious portrayal of a wheelchair bound party fiend who enjoys drinking copious amounts of beer, attending punk rock happenings, and watching porn videos slowly morphs into a chilling train-ride-to-hell as the man realizes he is nothing but a freak show to his companions.
This film has 10 times the energy of any Hollywood shock film because--- nothing revolutionary here--- it is well written and at its center is a great, landmark portrayal by the disabled lead actor.
As the credits rolled, I admit to feeling some anger; it's a difficult film to watch, the violence isn't overdone or gratuitous---- but it is very disturbing.
David Lynch fan? You won't want to miss this!
