I watched an old movie last night. It was "Top Hat" starring Fred and Ginger. It's been 75 years(!) since this movie was made yet I enjoyed it more than any "new" movie I've seen in many years. What is it about some of these old movies? Is it the sense of style and elegance that transcends the often silly plots? Is it the look of the film? Is it the fact that there is little violence and the language is more refined? Do they take us back, if only for a few hours, back into a simpler time? Are they just 'better' films than we are used to?
I know that "Top Hat" has it all, whatever that is........
Just one of the magical numbers from "Top Hat." Music by Irving Berlin...
