There were some good ones in the 60's, and then the mood of the country changed, and there was a batch of antiwar movies in the 70s that occasionally used WW2. Catch 22 for example.

The few American WW2 movies made in the 80's stunk. That continued in the 90's and beyond. There have been good foreign movies, but the constraints of the American experience and culture result in the genre being mined out.

I've been watching WW2 movies for over a half a century. I am tired of them. It's over.
