Got back from doing some shopping, flicked through the 'HD' channels and there's JATA so on it went while I started unpacking.
Half way through loading the freezer and I hear the unmistakeble creaking of the giant 'Talos', turning his head for the first time to look at Hercules who's had it away with his new found spear from under Talos's feet.
As I type this, Talos is still pretty pissed at the Argonauts and has already tipped them from their boat, so they're now on the beach and Talos is wondering which one to squash first, while Jason is looking at Talo's ankle and has a cunning plan.....
I'm really not sure if I enjoy this film because it reminds me of my youth it's appearance on TV was eagerly anticipated every single Christmas before even VHS, or because it really is the best film ever.
If it's not the best ever, it's darned close and although the special effects compared to something like 'Transformers' are archaic, they have far more impact - or is it the case the 'had' more impact because they were ground breaking?
Jason and the Argonauts and the original King Kong are films I can watch every so often because, thinking about it, they had a story which the effects complimented rather than effects which a story was built around,.
Again, I might be affected because these films were an integral part of my youth, but I think I'm right in saying those two films in particular have a soul which we just don't see nowadays.
Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.....
Best Regards,
Chris redmond.
