I don't need to tell anyone (I hope) about Mendes' work... from American Beauty to Revolutionary Road, he has a track record many would kill for and this is no let down.
The simple story of a couple about to have a baby trying to decide where to live who visit various old friends and relatives as they travel around.
From the first moments Mendes' mastery is clear from the movement across the screen and this film doesn't disappoint for one moment.
The writing is fantastic, the dialogue treads that line between "real" and "clever" with spectacular results. Laugh out loud moments ("we're not screw ups" "we have a cardboard window") balance an equal number of heart stoppingly poignant events.
The acting is worth short listing for awards right now and that goes right through the cast.

The music by (for me an unknown...) Alexi Murdoch is like a cross between John Martin and Nick Drake and is just one more reason why this film is a must see.
If it were showing I would go back again today.
