It is a formula picture. A Hollywood trope. Old basket-case, much younger woman to save him. Did I say "much?"
I love Jeff but Gyll and Duval, two of my least favorites (Bobby is all tics and mannerisms and shit-eating grin)--- may be too much for this grand-old soap-opera to overcome.
