whose film "Japon" is a marvel, comes, "Silent Light," the story of a Mennonite man who is driven to deep emotional and metaphysical pain by feelings he cannot seem to control in spite of the immense suffering and destruction his extramarital affair is causing.
Very few directors, Dreyer and Bresson come first to mind, equally well have captured the quiet life, the mystical power, of a deeply religious man under great moral strain.
This is a powerful film and it is no wonder it has generated so much not just critical acclaim but passionate support to be listed with the greatest of modern films.
I'd have to concur. This film entirely is on another plane from most serious films.
