Movies from comedy to drama to your favorite Hollyweird Star.

He Got Game, Fat City,The Hustler, Seabiscuit, Eight Men Out, Let It Ride, Pat & Mike, Basketball Diaries..

...and the greatest of them all, of course, Raging Bull..although my personal favorite sports movie is...Bull Durham, I LOVE this move. (Tin Cup wishes it was this good).

I love sports movies because they allow me to go all sentimental without fear of shame or reprisal :-)

He Got Game is IMO one of Spike Lee's best efforts, with a truly fine use of music and an excellent performance from Denzel Washington. Fat City has a great performance by a young Jeff Bridges, a career best role for Stacy Keach and good showing from Candy Clark (where is she now???). One of John Houstons better films. Let It Ride is a hilarious take on a low level racetracker/gambler played to the hilt by Richard Drefuss in full schlub mode. Pat & Mike is a classic I never tire of. The Basteball Diaries is all but forgotten these days, but it's one of the best movies I know about aspiration, addiction and sports.

The Hustler is just a great movie, period. Gleason and Newman were never better.

I not only adore John Sayles' Eight Men Out, I'm in it! (Somewhere way in the back of the stands.) It was largely shot in my hometown of Indianapolis.

Then there's Breaking Away, which I still find wonderful, and which was made about 50 miles down the road in Bloomington.

I love horses, so I had to include Seabiscuit. Horse movies can be too sweetly icky, but Seabiscuit has some great racing scenes and is beautifully shot. Champions, starring John Hurt, is another good "horse" movie, about the recovery from cancer and triumph of top British jockey Bob Champion and his mount's equally astounding comeback fron serious injury. It's a two hankie movie, but ver well done.

I'm sure there's some others I just can't think of at the moment.

Other sport movies I've enjoyed:

Chariots Of Fire
A League of Their Own
Hoosiers
Major League
Any Given Sunday
Slap Shot
Grand Prix
