All that humorless dysfunction wrapped around that one person who wouldn't defend himself. Ouch. All those self-created traumatic issues; such a dismal collection of "stuff", brought to a head at the end.That ending made the film fall into place, but I had to sit there the whole time waiting for it. If a person gets disgusted and leaves early, then they'll miss it, and the whole deal fails.
I don't know about Best Picture, but there should be a category out there somewhere for it. Maybe in the back alley after the Oscars are given out. I think people will love to hate this movie.
The 60's were well captured in this.
