It's 1943 and a group of eclectic Polish intellectuals and artistes somehow survive in Nazi Warsaw. Frederyk and Witold are among the harbored elite mulling their time in a parlor for other such denizens.
Witold decides to invite Frederyk to the country to visit a well-to-do friend to kill some time and off they go! Upon arrival they discover the lovely daughter who has a "special" relationship with her childhood friend Karol. But, Henia is engaged to the local, wealthy lawyer, Waclaw. Frederyk takes it upon himself to get Henia and Karol sexually involved because their chemistry says love to his perception.
I found this a compelling film based on the performance of Krzysztof Majchrzak playing Frederyk. His character was full of odd expressions, secret talents, and quirky movements. He was above the norm of the others in the cast and seemed to be an human sprite.
This was released in '03 but has no stale dating. It is what it is: unusual, delightful, mysterious.
