Some Canadian films you might like:
Maelstrom, The best film I have ever seen that was narrated by a Salmon.
waydowntown, If you liked the movie Office Space then you will probably get a big kick out of this - if not you still might!
Spider, Okay - it's a bit slow but it is a wonderful performance from Ralph Fiennes and has a beat
Sunshine, - Had some issues - should have been a mini-series not a cut down film - but it worked overall
Scanners (horror), One of the first exploding heads movies,
Videodrome,
Felicia's Journey(maybe the greatest serial killer movie of all time - certainly a helluva lot more realistic than Silence of the Lambs),
The Corporation (documentary),
The Sweet Hereafter,
Exotica,
A tout prendre,
Kissed (a film about Necrophilia - you have been warned),
Last Night, Dead Ringers and Crash (all by Cronenberg),
Leolo,
Naked Lunch,
"Emporte Moi" a very underrated and even more unseen film that was quite entertaining.
Margaret's Museum is just outstanding though it is a Brit/Canadian co production.
Not that I like all the films here and there are many other good ones but most of the above have as much merit as films from other countries.
I'd start with the Genie Award winners and try some out
