Michael Cera stole the show playing a dual role: uncool and cool versions of himself. The script was near brilliant and Cera is just the guy to deadpan and deliver all the self-deprecatory comments fitting of Woody Allen or a teenage John Cusak.
Cera lives a life of quiet desperation with a mom who (Jean Smart) is mostly interested in snagging a husband before she is over the hill. He revels in his virginity and his best friend and neighbor is the only person in the world "who is more miserable than me".
His mom and boyfriend end up at a RV park for a week where he meets the love of his life, Sheeni. She spends the week teasing Cera along and taunting him with her fluent-in-French boyfriend who writes poetry. As the film progresses Cera finds ways to hook up with Sheeni only to be foiled by her parents or her pretentious boyfriend.
The dialog for this film is not kiddie level. Cera's looks and ability to play an intellectual wimp surpass anyone I can think of at the moment. I wonder what will become of him after a few more of youth sagas he will be offered. (Jason Schwartzman was brilliant in Rushmore but his subsequent offers and roles never approached his first.)
Take this one with a bag of toasted almonds on a rainy afternoon.
