The American: "You are an American. You are exempt from history and . . . .

live only in the present." Clooney responds to the priest, "I try to."

A nugget worth the price of admission. Clooney finds himself the star of a standard European movie, hence: mixed reviews. I found this film compelling by the fact that we are invited into the details of a hitman's life who is on the brink of waking up and getting out. We watch him practice his craft, feel his caution and his sense of paranoia and dread. We also are party to the growing loneliness of a man who is beginning to get past his prime and lose his edge.

The complaints about "not enough action" are beyond me unless Jerry Bruckheimer is writing all the reviews. You must be patient but the action is there and it is good.

Talk about action: there is enough of Violante Placidio's ripe Italian body to get pinches from attending wives and girl friends. She is a perfect example of why Ferraris still have all those curves.

Anybody who has read a few subtitles won't be instantly disappointed in this film. Give it a shot.
