A foreign young woman (an Oscar worthy performance with an understated realism the equal of that at the heart of "Winter's Bone") marries a Belgian to gain citizenship but gets more than she bargained for: he is a junkie that agreed to the scam to fund his addiction. As he spins downward, she finally gets her citizenship and is pressured by underworld characters to ditch him so that she, in turn, can marry a foreigner, splitting the fee with the anxious criminals.
This is a love story, thriller, and a realist exposé all cleverly woven together by the wizardry of the French director brothers. If you saw and enjoyed, "Lilya-4-Ever," you definitely will like this film.
I rank it 4 out of 5 stars.
