Whoever concocted the blood for this gore fest must be a demon from hell. I nearly had to look away several times in the first half of the film. By the second half I had become acclimated to its color and consistency.
Beatrice Dalle has never been a looker to my eyes. She has rather freakish features which are very sinister in the dim shadows and lightening rain storm during the beginning of the film. Her manner and dress have an overall chilling effect of being almost supernatural.
She is in pursuit of lovely Alysson Paradis who months before had been involved in a car accident that took the life of her husband but not the life of her unborn child. Her child, due on 12/25, is the object of Beatrice's home invasion. The script and story line was very well developed and mature unlike its American counterparts. Here we have two women locked in mortal contest for the same child to be born the next day. And though Allyson has visitors and the police coming on two occasions she cannot escape the relentless, cold-hearted pursuit of the psychopathic Dalle.
This movie is a must see for horror fans. This is HOW it should be done. It departs from High Tension by being lower key, creepier, bloodier, and more original.
I don't particularly want to see this a second time but this is what our horror films should be and I hope a lot of indie folks have studied it.
