Saw the Scando film a while back and thought it so-so. I guess it took good old Amurican ingenuity to splatter some ketchup to make the story more compelling.
I was engrossed at how "close up" the cinematography was as it seems to make it a most personal story of the 12 year old boy and his vampire "girl". I thought the "bullying" was most appropriate illustrating problems in our contemporary society.
Richard Jenkins put in a gold performance as the loyal "Renfield" who was willing to take a bullet for the team.
For the monocle crowd I would suggest waiting for Netflix but otherwise this is a good popcorn munching, bladder busting story.
