From France: "Le Corbeau:" a splendidly chilling, oblique comment on

the Nazis and, in a larger sense, what totalitarianism wreaks upon citizens.
In a small town, an anonymous poison-pen writer seems to know everyone's most closely guarded secrets, most vulnerable information. As the finger-pointing destroys person after person, the original target, a big city doctor who has fled to the town to escape his demons, realizes he cannot remain motionless, passive.
Splendidly directed by Clouzot in what would be the first of several triumphs, i.e. "The Wages of Fear," "Quai des Orfevres."
