Presuming the presentation is decent...I still love the experience of seeing a film in an actual movie theater, in a darkened auditorium, with other people. It's part ritual, part shared experience, part scale and impact- even a smallish theater screen is SO much larger than the home experience.
With a good movie in a SOTA theater the one is transported. Thrilled. Many films are, after all, designed to be seen on the big screen. Some work quite well scaled down. But there is no room in my home for a 8' screen and FP, much less anything bigger. So my preferred way to see a much anticipated film is to see it in a theater. What I miss I'm glad to see on DVD. But nothing compares IMO to seeing a movie on the big screen as a communal event.
That's why I still like to go to the theater, even though tickets can strain my budget. Happily, AMC has inaugurated $5 prices for all showings Monday through Thursday. That works well for me.
