...how the heck are they gonna find a horse that actually physically resembles Secretariat? Color and markings are no big deal. he was handsome. But I saw him run in the Derby and I was fairly close to him at Arlington Park - he was a massive horse, not so much in height (at 16.2 he was a full hand shorter than Zenyatta) but in breadth of chest, shoulder, and hindquarters. Big boned for a TB. He was powerfully built to say the least.
We're going to see Secretariat this weekend. I expect it has been Disneyfied, and I know Keeneland stands in for Belmont, but I expect to enjoy it nonetheless. I adore Diane Lane, and since I've met Penny Chenery a couple times, I'm eager to see their take. I know one thing: IRL, you'd never catch Penny in a sweat. Never.
Since you're in Lexington do you have any connections to the horse indutry? I've been going to the races since I was 5, although we've owned show horses and harness horses. Still love the TBs. Dad was a consulant for Churchill. It's been beautiful racing weather for the meet this fall, both at K and Red Mile.
