That gorgeous summer of 1939 (now known as the Last Season of Summer Houses) is displayed to us through the lives of the Keyes clan whose patriarch is Sir Alexander a MP. We meet the family with the story centering around Anne (the adopted) who is an actress who has no politics. We soon find there is a dangerous, secretive subset of British aristocracy that are operating on all levels to prevent a war with Hitler even to the extent of borrowing money for Hitler to greenmail him into changing his factories to commercial industry (Pescott?). Most, who served in WW1, do not want a repeat of the slaughter, felt sure that Hitler would win, and would do anything to keep Churchill from becoming PM.
Quite by accident Anne discovers some recorded disks (33s masquerading as 78s) which contained blackmail and intimidation phone calls to various pro-Churchill MPs. Anne soon makes more horrible discoveries and then people she knows and loves start to die.
This 2:08 saga is compelling via its storytelling, editing, and beautiful cinematography. While not the most sophisticated plot, certainly one with enough twists and turns to keep you interested.
Queue it up in Netflix.
