Sure seems that way. How is it possible that the small country like Argentina can produce more good films than our whole powerful schlock and glitz industry?
When was last time the US industry made a film like the Window? Instead we are force-fed the shit of the Hurt Locker kind.
Why speak of it now? Simple... last night I started to watch yet another Argentinian film: The Aura.
There is something almost mystical about good Argentinian films.. they seem to draw you right in! We all remember the powerful opening shots of Fellini's masterpieces - right off the bat you know you are in for a treat. Not much happening yet, but the feeling, the atmosphere, the mood are all already there.
On a smaller scale, this is what happens with The Aura. An instant sensation that you want to keep watching it.
