"The Red Bear." This modern noir (really could have been in b&w and not lost anything)

tells yet again the story of the tough guy who takes the fall for the gang, does his time, and is released to find the boss won't pony up his share, forcing him into one more crime.
But it is terrific! The lead is convincing in a no-nonsense way with a code both original and true: how often do you come across that in any film? This isn't a 2-dimensional thug, but a man who realizes the suffering built into the choices he's made and who bears them, not unlike a Greek hero. His relationship with his ex, his child, and the family interloper is complex and.... original. In fact, his ex-wife's new beau is a fully-developed, interesting figure.
This little film proves that you can have your action and intelligence, too.
From Argentina, another triumphant export.
