This was not quite what I would have imagined from the title and commercials (I'm not familiar with the French film "Le Dîner de Cons" upon which it is based). It's mildly more complicated than I would have imagined. This is the first Steve Carell performace that I enjoyed. He played it straight and did a brilliant job of remaining character without allowing that typical, annoying Steve Carell energy to overpower it.
It's a goofy, silly movie with heart. My wife found it to be overly stupid, but I found it absolutely hilarious. I suppose it just depends if it happens to tickle your funny bone. To my delighted surprise, it tickled mine.
