Steve Carell is told by Julianne Moore that she wants a divorce and that she had an affair. Steve goes to the bar where Ryan Gosling senses his distress and mentors him to be a ladies man. Steve and Julianne have to juggle their lives which includes children.
It sounds ordinary and starts a bit slow but builds to a consistently interesting movie which has some heartfelt laughs and a few good surprises and a very funny ending that wraps things up nicely. There is a terrific ensemble of supporting characters which includes Emma Stone and Marisa Tomei.
One thing I liked about this movie is the lack of the usual monotone dialogue with jokes thrown in every three minutes just for fun. This movie is a bit meatier and you begin to care about everyone.
I read a review which said this film is as good as Bridesmaids and Paris After Midnight, the story itself is nothing new but the execution is and every actor is very likeable - at least by me, and CSL holds its own nicely.
