This action/drama takes us back and forth in 30 year swings to show us the mission and after effects on the three MOSSAD agents involved. Their mission was to capture and retrieve one Dieter Vogel, Nazi death camp surgeon. We meet the young counterparts and see the setup stage to snatch Vogel. Jesper Christensen played Vogel with all the same style and professionalism as Larry Olivier's Mengle...very cold, calculating yet engaging.
Jessica Chastain played the young Rachel who submitted to Vogel's gynecological exams in order to set him up. Chastain is the true jewel of this film. This was her movie and she looks to be a true super star in the making.
The weakest performance was Sam Worthington's David Peretz. He seemed out of his league and not cut out for dramatic acting. There wasn't enough action to cover his lack of chops.
The ending is predictable but getting there was most of the fun. Hearing the conniving Vogel in captivity was particularly galling.
One thing about Mirren, the old girl has looked rough for years and this movie didn't help matters. Too many cigarettes and whiskeys.
Overall, I enjoyed the convoluted journey and all the performances from the leads. Well done.
