entertaining film that held our interest quite easily. The troupe of actors is skilled, with the gnarly old inspector especially well-played.
A beautiful young woman is murdered, without a struggle, in a beautiful alpine village, alongside its picture-perfect lake. Better than the average thriller because it takes time to develop the central characters, eschews convention, and it kept us guessing up until the last few minutes: the wife caught on before the illumination. The subplot of how families deal with different tragedies, how alienation can arise from deep emotions, also made for a freshness rare to the genre.
That may seem like faint praise, but since the genre so rarely provides examples of this caliber, it indeed is a gem to treasure for the amateur sleuths among us.
