directed more than a few 5-star films. Easily one of the greatest modern directors. The Second Circle. Father and Son. Mother and Son. Alexandra. And the difficult, Russian Ark.
"Downfall" is predictable, no real surprises, pretty much what you expected. Moloch, otoh, transports as only art can.
Sokurov also helmed a splendid view of Hirohito and his last days, The Sun.
Highly recommended, all of them, though they're not Cineplex-style. If you enjoy Tarr, Antonioni, Tarkovsky, and "modern," new wave Asian film, you'll most probably have found your man.
