Related because of the projection of emotionally dead and soulless Germans portrayed in this drama of a summer vacation gone wrong.
Martina Gedick plays the the wife and mother hosting her son's girlfriend in a lovely house near the sea. Livia, 12, is a good sailor, intelligent, and precocious as hell. This point brought out early in the film by Andre the hosting dad.
One day early in the vacation Livia decides she wants to sail with the "new guy" on the block. A thirties-something German just returned from living in the states. Livia warms up and he seemingly falls for it much to the consternation of Gedick. Drama ensues and a twist is on the way.....
The characters in this movie are professional automatons nearly devoid of any emotion due to their concern for privacy and intellectual pursuit. Bill, the interloper, is hardly any different as he and Livia challenge Gedick's sense of morals and her responsibility for a visiting 12 year-old.
Not a really special film but a break from the usual dreck. Some nice sailing shots and certainly not boring.
2.5 outta 5.
