I am sorry, but I suspect all of us have gone in our lives through things as harsh, brutal, or WHOLE LOT MORE brutal, than what that guy experienced, and we still manage to do something with our lives.
Being bullied by a bunch of idiots... is that really a sufficient excuse for becoming a low life? I mean - not beaten into pulp, just humiliated, drenched in beer and left with pants down... I do not think so... ditto for a less than perfect home environment. Not horrible... not abusing... not insestful... just somewhat trashy.
This is pure victimhood looking for an excuse.
