I just didn't care whether or not DiCaprio's character got to see his kids again.
A convoluted fantastic story like this needed a stronger emotional core or all the twists and complexities of the subplots are worthless. So at the end DiCaprio spins the top and doesn't watch to see what happens. Neither did I. Dream or reality - same difference as far as I was concerned. I was not once on the edge of my seat worrying about the fate of these characters. The movie bored the crap out of me.
I blame DiCrapio. Yep, once again DiCrapio failed me. I swear I will never see one of his movies ever again.
