the car I have was built on December 13,1994. I am nostalgic I guess but like the Torquie thrust of the M60B40 which was awarded Best Engine when it was introduced. I;ve actually been able to drive it and the metal rapping I heard at forst hasn't been audible but it still shakes hard, the engine exhibits a pretty hard vibration.. Its been too cold to inspect the spark plugs and test Ignition Coil packs to see if maybe I have a misfiring cyl ,maybe a dead Fuel Injector combined with a failed engine mount resulting in extreme shaking.. maybe wishful thinking but It'll rev up to Redline and sounds msteady for the most part and I guess if there were major bearing failures as I first feared it would have 'exploded' when holding at 6,000 RPM.
I wonder if shaking from a broken motor mount could cause jumping in the Timing Chains or other internals making it run rough at idle and lower rpms . I still wouldn't say it ran smooth at 6K but the fact it was able to make it there and hold for a few seconds has me slightly less pessimistic.
that said I still have been looking for another 540 6 speed manual of the older series'
