Every single shot is a masterpiece of composition and lighting. Notice Kubrick's use of wide angle shots, when just about every other horror movie uses tight shots to create tension? That's the hallmark of an assured director. He wants you to know that the horror is deeper than some crappy monster jumping out of a cupboard and giving the audience a cheap scare.
The whole movie is flawless. And the soundtrack is phenomenal. The Blu-Ray transfer is stunning (it looks even better through a projector).
That creepy kid with the bowl-cut still gives me nightmares. REDRUM REDRUM...
