At a doddering 63 I was one of the youngest in the audience. I took it in stride knowing I could probably get to the fire exit over the heads of most everyone there. This film is for the infirm of heart. Those of us reaching for something in those last years in hopes to make them special. The Marigold accidentally became one of those places.
Some of Britain's best seniors filled the screen to play out the drama, comedy, and romance of those reaching for their last ring on the merry-go-round. The stories are nothing new but they become special because of the age of its players. I doubt that the Academy will stare at this one but they just might give Dench and Nighy good glance. Everyone gave their usual superb Brit best which will probably be a BAFTA knockout.
So, get comfortable, grab the squeeze, leave your dentures at home, and take a vicarious trip to the Marigold. Or at least send your squeeze and her mother, anyway.
