It's been many moons since I've jumped in the movies but this one scored. There's plenty of opportunities depending on your jump cut/sound level change sensitivity. Even the opening credits scene is not your average fare.Hawke is a crime writer who last made big money and fame two books ago. He moves his family, without their knowledge, into the scene of the crime for his newest book. The creepy mystery starts when Hawke enters his new office space to find a solitary box remaining that contains Super 8 films and a projector. From that point on the mystery grows and the chills and spills intensify.
I found this to be a rather mature "scary movie" over the mass produced popcorn variety. Hawke did well as the stressed (broke) writer slowly slipping into panic. The rest of the cast was admirable and the loveable Senator Fred Thompson plays the less than enthusiastic local sheriff who is less than welcoming to Hawke's reputation as crime writer and cop exposer.
This is a decent change of pace for the movie enthusiast and better than the trailers can convey.
