expect from the "new wave" South-of-the-Border films that trace their heritage to the classic, "Amores Perros." And this one holds its own w/that one: a beauty contestant visits a night club when a massacre by a drug gang occurs. She escapes with her life only to become entangled in a web of violence between the authorities and the gang.
This is lean and mean cinema, the kind we used to make long ago in the '40s. The young woman isn't an "Angelina Jolie-" fake toughie; don't expect a woman of 115 pounds to be beating up on roomfuls of men twice her weight. Do expect to be both entertained and disturbed by this film and the young woman's riveting performance.
