It starts out a cool plane movie. Then it devolves into the same old, same old, 'alcoholic has to hit bottom' movie we've seen dozens of times already.
Seriously, every beat in this movie (past the cool opening) was totally predictable. Particularly the ending.
Seen it all before. Too many times.
Great airplane movies:
1) No Highway in the Sky - Jimmy Stewart, Glynis Johns, Marlene Dietrich.
2) Fate is the Hunter - Rod Taylor and Glen Ford
3) Flight of the Phoenix - Jimmy Stewart
4) Spirit of St. Louis - Jimmy Stewart. Damn, he likes airplane movies.
