RE: For those of us who ignored the Oscars, how about...

Kind of a dull show. An interminable back and forth between host Seth McFarlaine and Shatner to start it off. Not very funny or entertaining. Seth tried hard, but never delivered much. A few though- he told a joke about Lincoln- the only actor to get inside his head was John Wilkes Booth- audience groaned, Seth came back with- it's been 150 years, is it still too soon?

Anyway, what I like about this show are the brief joyful moments when someone I never heard of gets their award and their short speech. The technical guys from Life of Pi. The producers of Searching for Sugar Man.

Etc. As far as the big names- Quentin T. made a nice excited speech ending with Peace Out. Ang Lee seemed suitably overwhelmed- his Life of Pi is really something of an art movie, I was glad to see it so successful (as it has been commercially worldwide as well). It was nice to see Ben Affleck get his award, whether or not Argo is really "best movie", whatever that means, it was a nice moment. Daniel Day Lewis looked solemn, then started a mini-stand-up routine, and it was funny.

That's about it. The memorial section always moves me, as inevitably there are familiar faces who are gone, whom I did not know had died this year.

It was OK. Not the best by far.
