It's pacing is about as quick as the zombies and as much as I like horror movies (Dawn of the Dead 1978 especially) this series become quite banal quite fast. Season 3 seems to have come off the rails.
Now having said that - it does keep me watching it - kind of like staring at road kill.
The main problem with the series though is that there is no character development because everyone is the same character - a survivor out to survive. It's the same thing over and over. One group of survivors needs to find supplies and kill zombies in disgusting manners - one group fights another group of survivors over the bones as it were.
Which character is going to get killed this week (which I suppose holds some interest because no one is safe - no matter how main a character they may seem to be). But the problem of course is that none of the main characters are all that interesting. If Rick was eaten in the next episode - it really would not matter because he could be replaced by pretty much anyone and it wouldn't really skip a beat. Pretty tough to replace House in House for example.
It holds my interest - I've watched them all so that counts for something and I do like the imagination of this survivor story - the "What if this happened?" and seeing how the writers tackle the greater issue of "humanity" and how it devolves over time based on what happens to the survivors. And seeing what new way they can splatter a zombie is always kind of cool.
I do wish it offered a bit more humour here or there - just sprinkle in something to uplift it from always being completely dreary.
