Recently I had the chance to see Jurassic Park and Schindler's List in 1080p on my Kuro plasma. The heightened resolution made each a new experience, and I think it slightly hurt each film. Jurassic Park completely fell apart as kids' stuff. The sets and effects are no longer state of the art and looked a bit silly. You could always tell that the raptors' faces looked childish but in HD it's even worse. Too bad, because the original book by Crichton was actually very good and the idiotic screenplay and direction is really a missed opportunity by Spielberg.
The new HD transfer of Schindler's List looked remarkable, but this proved a double-edged sword for the film. Some of the sequences had an ultrarealism that hit me in the gut even harder in 1080p. The audio is much improved too. However, In some key scenes I became too aware that I was seeing a set and the gravity unravelled. I do recommend SL on blu-ray but as always you have to be in the mood. I'm a little ashamed to say I never realized the people accompanying the real list survivors to Schindler's grave were the actors. I had just assumed it was the survivors' family members and never looked closely enough to realize it was the actors until I saw the BD.
