Screw the critics. They go to a movie to critique and/or criticize. I went expecting little and was swept away with the flow and non-stop action. Depp didn't necessarily "make" the movie as much as the whole of the cast and direction. I moved beyond "this is really CGI" and got into enjoying myself. I think this film will get stronger legs in the coming week and should sell a jillion DVDs to the kids who will watch it set on repeat. To me the best scene was when Hammer was discussing the situation with assembled tribal chiefs. Lots of irony and humor especially since Tonto wasn't invited. Later Tonto asked, "Did my name come up?" You bet it did.
Depp was good (despite his character having no depth), Hammer passable, Fitchner and Wilkinson excellent with Barry Pepper doing a good turn as a George Custer clone. No real disappoints here. Do not despair as Rossini gets his moment.
Definitely three chipmunk cheeks full of popcorn.
