In a tiny farming village occupied by Germans, a group of four saboteurs is caught. Three are hanged and the fourth one, when released, is hated and suspected of collaboration by his neighbors. Eventually, the underground resistance acts to settle the score.
Vengeance. Executions. Guilt.
This is as profound a study of those three as you'll find in film.
The lead actor very much calls to mind a Russian Depardieu.
