Battle Royale features middle school students whose bus is high jacked on the way home and the students are taken to an island to fight to the death (still in their school uniforms).
Most of the film is about the students trying to survive and has several confrontations that add interest and fun to the proceedings. The students already know each other so that adds something as well. Overall, compared to The Hunger Games this is lighter fare and campy with much more to recommend it. Just the opening hour of The Hunger Games was overblown and made me want to leave the theater and the fights were much too short imo and it never took on the sense of scale BR has.
Just think, school girls with machine guns...
