there is an old movie formula where 2 partners with huge differences are paired, and this seemed a bit formulaic in that way.
In this case, the crusty cynical reporter and the deeply innocent mother.
I don't mean to complain too much, I did enjoy it and did not know where the story would go and indeed the performances are good.
It's just that I saw Nebraska just the day before and that was IMO much better, emotional yet without the somewhat button pushing emotionality of Philomena.
