Just got the DVD. Looks good, but never saw the movie before. My buddy says it's different from the theatrical release, in that the pilot (Stewart) who crashes the plane had made the decision to fly through the sandstorm, thus incurring the wrath of hubris, which explains his attitude and behavior towards the other characters later -- but the DVD skips that aerial segment, and they just simply crash-land. So no blame on the pilot for a perhaps bad decision, and no feelings of guilt.
Changes the entire movie, he says.
Or maybe he saw it in an early VHS edition. I can find no record of a Director's Cut
Anyone?
P.A.
