Light and fluffy, filled with manufactured moments of humor, drama, and even romance, this unispired ensemble generates enough mediocrity to be a real crowd pleaser. This is a war movie you can take your granny to see without fear of her being offended or having a Depends moment. Clooney's direction provides all the gravitas of 'Kelley's Heroes' or 'The Longest Day' without gunfire or subtitles. It seems everyone pretty much showed up and said there lines and it's also a good thing this Blanchett performance is on the 2014 side of the Oscars.
Judging from the near packed matinee I would say most everyone in America is going to see the usual suspects turn in their usual performances and be happy about it in the end. This is one of those films where the trailer literally outshines the finished product.
Suck it up and take granny for her monthly outting.
