I tend to lean, as does the above photo*, toward animated movies created for mature audiences....grown-ups. Or at least not aimed specifically toward the under 14 yr old set. And I confess, I am a huge fan of computer generated graphics and animation.
One blu-ray I had to chase down was the "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence". The original version offered to NA at the time of its release had serious flaws; Japanese language only, no English dub and with very poor sub-titles. A 2009 blu-ray re-master corrected the flaws of the original but was offered in limited numbers and quickly became collectible and high priced. But there is another offering on blu-ray that puts the original GITS along with the 'fixed' GITS-2 in the same case. I found it from a seller in Australia for a reasonable price. imho GITS-2 is the best movie of that family. A murder mystery. It has the sensibilities of a different director from the first. There is less gratuitous sex and more story to this one. See if you can stay with it. the going gets complex toward the end.
I had to hunt down a Fantastic Planet copy. That movie saw plenty of TV airings during the late seventies/early eighties, then went away.
The "Fire and Ice" I found out of curiosity. I knew it received negative reviews at the time of its coming out. Yet, I am a fan of Frank Frazetta illustrations, and he did the drawing on this one. It is not a particularly good animated movie, it suffers from a weak conception but the art work has Frazetta's style all over.
Anyone else collect animated movies?
