What are the chances of an actress appearing after midnight to audition for a play that she already knows the entire script? At first a bit of a puzzle to Amalric as he reads opposite a passionate Emmanuelle Seigner who seemingly embodies the exact character he created. The work is about a masochistic relationship which seems to come alive as the "audition" continues and spills over into reality.
Just two characters act this interesting work with a solid script filled with wit and clever parry and lunge. Polanski has put his wife to good use in this one and allowed Amalric to shine (wtih a physical appearance close to the master's). This one is best served with a snifter and monocle. (NF)
