Renoir's, "Rules of the Game:" years since I saw this classic, perennially on the

critics' lists as one of the top films of all time.
Certainly, it is one of the most scathing parodies of the upper-classes ever made, but it isn't just the style that hasn't aged well, it is the acting, the pacing, and the story. I almost fell asleep, actually. Still, it must be seen, if but for one scene depicting a dozen perfectly outfitted hunters massacring scores of rabbits and birds driven to them by a small army of servants. It is impossible not to think of WWI when seeing this.
