But if you look at it as a kind of campy type of horrow movie, (i.e. Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness, Return of the Living Dead, or even to a certain extent, the new Cabin in the Woods movie, which is pretty good btw), and especially if you remember the old "Lassie" show, you'll appreciate it even more. (Plus watching Billy Connolly's expressions is a hoot.)
