...this received a rave review in the local newspaper chain - "the best film you will see this year".
So I couldn't pass it up.
It centers on a 6 year old girl named Hushpuppie living with her father in small island near New Orleans.
The characters are interesting and pretty well developed - not anyone you'd want to hang out with, but grits probably can relate.
The young first time actress is incredible and really the only reason to see this film - she should be nominated for an Oscar.
It is very depressing to realize there are people living in our country in the kind of squalor you saw the kids living in in Slumdog Millionaire.
No on in this film hits the jackpot.
I'd give it a B-.
